Business and Leadership Thought Capital

Tuesday’s “disruption” wasn’t unprecedented. It wasn’t even particularly shocking.

The last 40 years may have been highly disruptive but “disruption” has been part of the human experience since day one. We just used different ways of describing the concept.

So Jesus Christ, Johan Guttenberg, Henry Ford, Jeff Bezos, Elan Musk and all you others – move over. Trump is center stage now….until the next disruptive leader comes along.

In the book I wrote 6 years ago “Owning Tomorrow: The Unstoppable Force of Disruptive Leadership” I pointed out that all disruptive leaders have some traits in common and Trump isn’t any different:

  • They often push accepted behavioral, cultural, legal, and ethical boundaries to the limit.
  • They’ve learned how to disrupt their own frames of reference and unproductive mindsets.
  • They look for information, insights, and inspiration in unexpected places. (That’s putting it mildly!)
  • Their mission to improve the lives of consumers (eg. citizens) stands at the center of everything they think about and do.
  • They understand that successful disruptions have to be planned and executed very strategically.
  • Their actions and their organizations have short-term negative consequences for a lot of people but the long-term benefits far outweigh the short-term confusion.

But here’s the kicker that freaks at least 1/2 of the US population out: DISRUPTIVE LEADERS INCREASE OUR STANDARD OF LIVING AND GENERATE IMMENSE WEALTH!

So let the good times roll!!
