Everyone Forgets the Most Important Factor for Becoming a Leader

I’ve watched hundreds of videos about leadership and a lot of it is very good, if not excellent. Simon Sinek is usually my go-to guru, especially for reinforcing the work I do with business owners and CEOs.

But even he doesn’t touch on what I am reminded of every day:

You HAVE TO WANT to be a leader.

True leaders aren’t in it for money, ego gratification, or status, although inevitably these material, psychological, and emotional rewards come with the territory.

The fact is there are a lot of less risky and time-consuming ways to satisfy those needs – marry well, invest in real estate, become a banker, lawyer, or doctor, and write a best-selling novel or two…

Being a real leader isn’t easy. You are challenged every day and doubts are a common occurrence. You often take the more difficult paths, because you know the rewards are usually greater. Not a day goes by when you aren’t learning and growing.

But despite everything, you’re in it for the long term…because true leadership is about building a better future for EVERYONE.
